Since beginning this journey of discovery for my personal family history I have always felt it was important to share as much information with not only my family but to anyone of Cape Verdean descent and non- Cape Verdeans, alike. I feel that our history is so intertwined with the general history of so many people’s that we can all learn from what happened on this tiny arquipelago off the coast of Senegal.

That being said, I have spent a lot of my own time, money and resources researching and combing through thousands of documents and additional hours putting all the pieces together. I really feel it is only right that I ask for a bit of recognition when someone decides to use any work that I have researched and produced material for. I have no issues at all with my research being included in anyone’s work provided that they at least seek appropriate permissions – and at least a phone call – I’d even settle for an email.

My name is Anna Lima. I am the daughter of immigrants, born and raised in Massachusetts. I am the mother of two and a Speech Pathologist. My love of family history began as a child listening to my elders speak of “the old country”. Through their stories grew a love for the culture and traditions of my ancestors and I wanted to know more about who they were. My great-grandmother, our family Griot, was my greatest inspiration as she passed down stories and traditions that have helped me become the person I am today. I believe that remembering our ancestors strengthens who we are. I hope to continue my great-grandmother’s legacy, to continue to pass down the stories of not only my own family history but also the stories of the ancestors of anyone who wishes to remember. My blog is dedicated to the ancestors, those remembered and those yet to be found.

  1. Finally!! I have found someone that writes more than just dates about her ancestors. Since discovering my husband's 3great grandfather, Joseph Silva, was born in Cape Verde instead of the generic Portugal, and made his way to Hawaii where he remained, I have been searching for information about Cape Verde–information as in why's and how come's not just dates. I have really enjoyed reading your blogs. Maybe down the road in the near future I will ask your advice in tracing his birthplace in Brava where he owned land. Thank you so much for your passion for your family history.

  2. Hi Anna,
Thank you so much for all the time, effort and research you have devoted to Cape Verde history and tracing your ancestors. I
believe that your copyright statement is right to the point and completely appropriate.
I am extremely pedantic when referencing where I have obtained either an image or information.
Again, thank you for all that you do.
    Julie
