We are descendents of the “Pires da Silva (Branco)” line, from Cape Verde, Sao Vicente and Santo Antao, probably with roots from the “Azoren”. Descendents of “Manuel Zacarias da Silva Branco and Catharina Melicio de Andrade” ,nowadays “Silva Family”. Proximally 1825, from the “Azoren” to Cape Verde, Santo Antao. Three brothers. Some left to Brava, Praia, U.S.A, Argentina and Brasil.
Looking for grandparents never met them.the last name was popes nd married name camilo .Thank you.
I see da Lomba listed in your surnames. I am seeking Christiano Joseph Da Lomba b abt 1900.
Hello, My name is Dena Marie Joseph and I was wondering if anyone out there could assist me in finding out if I still have family in Cape Verde as I was told so and would love to connect if possible. I am the last remaining female to carry the family last name here in the States on my maternal side. I would also like to make any connections from my fathers side as well.
MY NAME IS ANTONIO ALMEIDA, MY FATHER WAS EDWARD JOSEPH ALMEIDA, SON OF JOSE EDUARDO CANDITO ALMEIDA. HE WAS MARRIED TO MIA FORTES, BOTH FROM CAPE VERDE. MILDRED ALMEIDA WAS A COUSIN AND CLOSE TO MY FATHER.
Sylvia Almeida Alves was my grandmother, Mildred’s sister and Mai’s daughter.
Interested in any families who sailed with my Maternal Grandfather Henriques Martins (Henry J. Martin) from Brava to New Bedford on board the schooner David A Story 1906. His parents were Guilhermina de Burgo (dob 1830 daughter of Jose A de Burgo & Maria de Lomba de Andrade) and Joao Jose Martins married in the Sao Joao Baptista. Most of this family used the last name of Martin & docked/settled in New Bedford MA or Brockton MA. The other families who sailed on this are listed on the ship’s manifest. The Captain was Manuel Jose Andrade. I live in Arizona & have contacted cousins in Van Nuys CA to explain the ancestry. Mike Martin Sparks Petroni.
Hi, I just discovered and really enjoyed your blog. Are you still actively searching? We have some of the same surnames so I thought it could be worth it to reach out. If you are interested in Connecting I am on Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, Myheritage and 23&me. I’d love to connect. Here is a post I recently shared on a few FB genealogy groups. I wanted to share with you also.
“Hi, I have been hitting walls looking for my GGparents on my maternal grandmothers side. My GGrandfather Joseph Fernandez? Correia born 1874 came here from Cape Verde Islands in 1895 and settled in Fairhaven, Bristol, Mass. I found census records showing that he owned a grocery store market or stand in the area (74 Raymond St. ??) around 1920? I saw that they possibly owned/rented property 33-34 Water St. Fairhaven, Mass. I am told that he passed sometime around 1921-23. There is no record of his death or where he was buried. His wife GGM Maria Teixeira born 1889 in Cape Verde came here in 1915. She was married to my grandfather soon after? I have no record of marriage for them. They had my Grandmother Roza (Rosie) Correia 1/29/1916. After Joseph Correia died My GGM Maria married a Louis Andrade and had a daughter Dominga Andrade 1924-2003 (Perry is her Married name) I was told that my grandmother worked the cranberry bogs in the late 1930’s, early 40’s. All of my distant relative family trees on myheritage and ancestry seem to have my families info missing ( its a mystery) and the ones who are 2nd or 3rd cousins only have immediate family listed. I have no record either of their deaths, or where they were buried or of their parentage in Cape Verde.
hoping that my story peaks someone’s curiosity and they are willing to help me connect the dots.
any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated.”
